Soundworlds

I help facilitate peaceful soundworlds that give people permission to slow down and calm their nervous systems, in a culture that prioritizes progress and doing.

A reflection

“Music is a universal language”

I need to split music into two silos: understanding and feeling. Music, sound arranged in culturally important, objectively or subjectively beautiful ways, has the capacity to bring about universal feeling in people. I believe, as humans, we are biologically created to be in a relationship through feeling with music.

Music is a vehicle for human healing. For moving through or sitting with joy, love, grief, nostalgia, pain, loss, peace, triumph…That is universal.

I do not need to know the cultural or creative choices of a rhythm to feel that pulse in my body. To feel the urge to dance. To feel euphoria and release through movement.

But like anything in life, music is so nuanced. An aggregate of 10s, 100s, 1000s of years of traditions. Different purposes, intentions, gender, roles, instruments, concepts… All somehow interwoven into the history and deep relationship with a physical place. The only way to understand this is to be deeply involved. This requires relationship.

I do not want my presence to be extractive. I want to be bi-musical. I want to live it. I want to feel it. I want to be in deep relationship with the life I am around.
